Story 53. Bozanjar is the 12th cousin of Wanyan Agolta's grandfather, "Ogorae (烏古迺 Agonae, Kogorae, Goguryeo)"

Story 53. Bozanjar is the 12th cousin of Wanyan Agolta's grandfather, "Ogorae (烏古迺 Agonae, Kogorae, Goguryeo)"

"Bozanjar", the 9th direct ancestor of Genghis Khan and the progenitor of the"Nilun Mongol" tribe of the Korras tribe, what kind of relationship does he have with the Yekiras tribe, the brother tribe that founded the Jin Dynasty, and the Kongrat tribe, the tribe of Genghis Khan's wife, Burte Ujin?

In what era did "Bozanjar" work?

Including the <Secret History of the Mongols>, Western history books do not record the specific period of Bozanjar's life.

To find out, we can find a contemporary of Bozanjar and infer the period of his life. Bojanjar is the 5th generation descendant of Bohwali, and his cousin of the same generation from the Yekiras tribe, a brother tribe, is Kogorai (烏古迺, Ogorae), the 5th generation descendant of Hambo. In that case, “Bojanjar” is the 12th cousin of “Ogorae((烏古迺)” of <Geumsa,Jin Dynasty History>.

For that reason, Ogorae((烏古迺)” is the son of Shilo(實魯).

His father Shilo is the 10th cousin and sister of Alan Gowa based on the common ancestor, Geumhaeng. Therefore, “Ogorae((烏古迺)” and “Bojanjar” were 12th cousins.

At the same time, Silo and Alan Gowa were the 4th cousin and 4th cousin on the mother’s side based on their parents.

Therefore, Bojanjar, the 5th generation descendant of Bohwali, and Gyeongjo(景祖) Kogorai (Ogorae, 烏古迺) of Hambo were 6th cousins on the mother’s side and 6th cousin on the father’s side(姑從兄弟) between cousins. This kinship is confirmed through the genealogy of the three brothers' tribes below.

The old name of "Ogorae (烏古迺)", the eldest brother of the Yekiras tribe, who is of the same lineage as Bojanjar, is "Kogorae", which is the same name as "Kogorae (高句麗)". The original name of the Malgal language "Kogorae (高句麗)" is written in different Chinese characters in the Jin Dynasty style Idu.

This "Kogorae (烏古迺)" is actually the same name as the name of "Kagorae (阿古迺)", the great founder of the "Konggrat (Goguryeo) tribe", who is his collateral ancestor.

Bojanjar was found to be the 6th cousin of Gyeongjo "Kogorae" in the genealogy of the Jin ancestor Balhae (跋海), and the 12th cousin in the Jin Dynasty. Therefore, if the era of Bojanjar and same generation, and the person who lived in the same era were known, then the era of Bojanjar himself could also be known.

Fortunately, the era of Kogorai (烏古迺, Ogonae), the 5th generation descendant of Hambo and the eldest brother of the Yekiras tribe, was roughly known.

Let's refer to Kogorai's era to learn about the era of Bojanjar, who lived in the same era as Donghangryeol. Kogorae (烏古迺, Ogonae) was born and lived around 1007.

In particular, <Geumsa Segi, Jin Dynasty History Generation Records> states that Kogorai was active during the reign of Song Injong (仁宗) from 1022 to 1063. In light of this record, it can be said that Kyungjo Kogorai of the Yekiras tribe and Bozanjar of the Korras tribe of the same lineage lived between 1022 and 1063, during the reign of the Song Dynasty, like Kogorai.

Also, if we look at it differently, Rashid said in <Tarikh-e Monghul, 集史 History of Mongolia> that the “era of Alan Kowa” was the “late Abbasid period (990s).”

Let’s take Bozanjar’s year of birth as about 17 years after 990, when one generation was born in the case of early marriage.

Then the result would be 990 + 17 years = 1007. In the end, Bozanjar was born in 1007 or 1012 during the late Abbasid dynasty, the era of Alan Kowa, and lived with Kogorai (烏古迺, Ogonai), the fifth-generation descendant of Hambo, the eldest brother of same generation, during the reign of Song Injong from 1022 to 1063.

Then, is the region where Bozanjar lived, “Tungelik Korkan”, “our land, “Togorun”?

Let’s find out where Bozanjar lived.

According to the <Secret History of the Mongols>, Bozanjar moved to “Tungelik Korkan” and built a thatched house to live there.

At that time, the “Orangkha people of Zarchiud Adangkhan” moved to the land where he lived and began to live. However, Jin Jingzu of the Yekiras tribe, a close cousin of Bozanjar, conquered almost all the villages around Wanyanbu and made them follow him during the reign of Emperor Renzong of the Song Dynasty, which lasted for 41 years from 1022 to 1063. Thanks to that, Baeksan (白山), which corresponds to Musan (茂山) today, Yahoe (耶悔), which corresponds to Yukjin (六鎭) today, Tuman (統門, Tongmun), which is the land along the Tuman River today, Tomun (土門), Gyarai (耶懶, Yara), which is Hamheung in Hamnam today, and even the chieftains of the five countries, all came to follow Gyeongjo’s orders.

There is one place name that is noteworthy here. It is “Togorun (土骨論 Togolon),” which is also called Jeongpyeong today. This place name is very similar to the place name “Tungelik (To Golik)” of “Tungelik Korkan”, the settlement of Bodonchar, as mentioned in <the Secret History of the Mongols>.

If the two place names are the same, the “Oryangkay people of Zarchiud Adangkhan” who moved to Bozanjar moved to the Jeongpyeong (定平) land of “Togorun (土骨論 Togolon)” where Bozanjar settled, as a result of the conquest activities around the Ongkhanbu of Kogorai (烏古迺), the 5th generation descendant of Hambo at that time.

Bozanjar’s mother Alan Gowa and maternal grandfather Korirardai Mergen lived in “Borkan Kaldon”, namely, Galajon (曷懶甸) where Mt. Bulham was visible, not far from there.
